Health & Safety Policy

Blonde Limited Last updated:  May 2026

Blonde Limited is committed to providing a safe working environment for all employees, freelancers, contractors, contributors and members of the public who come into contact with our work.

This policy sets out our approach to managing health and safety across our studio, our productions, and our supply chain; proportionate to the scale and nature of our business as an independent creative production studio.

Our commitment

Blonde Limited is committed to:

Providing safe working conditions for all staff, freelancers, crew, cast, contributors and members of the public affected by our activities.

Complying with the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974, the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999, and all other relevant UK health and safety legislation.

Carrying out suitable and sufficient risk assessments for every production.

Ensuring all crew, cast and contributors are briefed on health and safety arrangements before work begins.

Providing access to first aid, welfare facilities, and emergency arrangements on every shoot.

Reviewing and improving our health and safety practices over time.

Responsibility

Overall responsibility for health and safety within Blonde Limited sits with the company directors:

Doug Newman, Co-Founder / Managing Director

Benjamin Dawson, Co-Founder / Creative Director

Co-founder Doug Newman holds a current St John Ambulance Emergency First Aid at Work qualification, and a trained first aider is present on every shoot.

A designated production lead is responsible for implementing the agreed health and safety arrangements on the day.

All employees, freelancers and contractors working with Blonde have a responsibility to:

Take reasonable care of their own health and safety, and that of others around them.

Co-operate with the production team in fulfilling its health and safety duties.

Follow the agreed working practices, briefings and risk assessments for each shoot.

Report any hazards, incidents or near-misses to the production lead immediately.

Risk assessment

Every Blonde production is supported by a written risk assessment, prepared by the Producer and signed off by the Executive Producer before filming begins.

Each risk assessment:

Identifies significant hazards relevant to the production.

Identifies who may be at risk (crew, cast, contributors, public).

Sets out the controls in place to reduce risk to a low level.

Is shared with all crew, cast and relevant third parties before filming.

Is reviewed and updated where circumstances change.

Where a production involves specific risks such as filming with children, working at height, water, traffic, animals, stunts, special effects, or in hazardous environments, additional specialist risk assessments and qualified personnel are engaged as required.

Standard arrangements

The following arrangements apply to every Blonde production:

First aid

A trained first aider is present on every shoot, with a first aid kit accessible to all crew and cast.  The location of the nearest A&E hospital is identified in advance and noted on the call sheet.

Welfare

Adequate welfare facilities are provided on every shoot, including access to drinking water, toilets, refreshments and a designated rest area for cast and crew.

Fire safety

Fire exits, evacuation routes and assembly points are identified at every location before filming begins.  All crew and cast are briefed on emergency procedures during the on-set briefing.

Emergency contacts

Emergency contact details, including for the Producer, Executive Producer, and on-set first aider, are provided on every call sheet.

Site briefing

A health and safety briefing is delivered to all crew, cast and contributors before filming begins.  This covers the day’s specific risks, controls, emergency procedures, and any site-specific rules.

Equipment

All production equipment is selected, used and maintained appropriately for the task.  Where applicable, equipment carries current safety certification and is operated by trained personnel.

Manual handling

Lifting and manual handling tasks are shared between crew and conducted in line with safe working practices.

Working with children

All productions involving child performers are conducted in line with our Safeguarding & Child Protection Policy, the Children (Performance and Activities) Regulations 2014, and local authority licensing requirements.

Location-specific arrangements

For each location, we co-operate fully with venue owners, operators and site managers to ensure:

The location’s existing health and safety arrangements are understood and respected.

Emergency procedures and evacuation routes are identified before filming begins.

Co-ordination is in place with on-site security, facilities or management as required.

Public safety is maintained throughout filming, particularly when working in pedestrianised, retail, or shared environments.

For international shoots, we work with vetted local production partners who operate in accordance with their country’s health and safety legislation, and we ensure UK-equivalent standards are applied wherever possible.

Reporting incidents

All accidents, incidents, near-misses and hazards are reported to the Producer or Executive Producer at the earliest opportunity.

Where required by RIDDOR (Reporting of Injuries, Diseases and Dangerous Occurrences Regulations 2013), incidents are reported to the Health and Safety Executive.

We maintain records of significant incidents and near-misses, and use these to inform future risk assessments and improve our practices.

Training and competence

We ensure that:

A trained first aider is present on every shoot.  Co-founder Doug Newman holds a current St John Ambulance Emergency First Aid at Work qualification.

Production leads are competent in risk assessment and on-set health and safety management.

Specialist personnel are engaged where productions involve specific risks (e.g. stunts, working at height, water, special effects).

Freelancers and crew are vetted for relevant experience and competence before being engaged on Blonde productions.

Continuous improvement

We recognise that health and safety is an ongoing practice.  Blonde Limited is committed to:

Reviewing our health and safety arrangements on a project-by-project basis, and at company level annually.

Learning from incidents, near-misses and feedback.

Remaining informed about best practice within the production industry.

Taking proportionate steps to strengthen our approach over time.

Review

This policy will be reviewed annually and updated as necessary to reflect changes in legislation, operations and industry best practice.

Approved by

Benjamin Dawson and Doug Newman, Directors, Blonde Limited.
